We know that balanced strength and mobility is crucial for a healthy body, yet it’s often unclear how to work successfully with a client with too much mobility, too little or both. There are reasons why stretching programs don’t work for some people. All tissue in the body can adapt and change with the right input and enough time. In this workshop, we’ll look at the causes of restriction within joints, muscles, fascia and the nervous system, and provide a process for differentiating the source of the problem. Based on the cause of “tightness” or restriction, we’ll adapt therapeutic Pilates exercises to reset length and control. The science of stretching will be at the center of this discussion. The next phase of this workshop will address hypermobility—both globally and locally. We’ll take an in-depth look at the causes and consequences of hypermobility, and how therapeutic Pilates can be used to restore control. This in-depth workshop is designed for experienced movement and health professionals with a Pilates practice. It will provide practical therapeutic Pilates reasoning, modifications, and programming to go along with the science of movement.
