Programming on the Reformer for Athletes (Approved for Merrithew™ and PMA CECs)

6 hours | Mixed (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced)

Description

This full day, head-to-toe program gives a multitude of programming options on the Reformer for any athlete or client looking to increase strength.  It’s presented in 3 sections: Lower Body Exercises, Upper Body Exercises, Core and Full Body Integrated Exercises.  The exercises range from beginner to advanced.  We take classic exercises and fitness-based exercises and put them together into a powerful program to challenge and improve the strength and body awareness of your toughest clients.  Designed like a traditional fitness program, this workshop marries the best of both worlds: Pilates and fitness.

Objectives

  1. To give examples of exercises addressing the body in sections similar to a traditional fitness program:  Beginning with Lower Body, continuing with Upper Body and concluding with core and Full body integrated exercises.
  2. Learn tips and skills on how to introduce and train individuals with a fitness background on the Reformer with fitness based moves while keeping the historic Pilates principles as well as the STOTT PILATES Basic Principles (contemporary principles of alignment) at the forefront of the programming.
  3. Discuss programming options for taking the exercises presented and putting them into workouts that will help the client achieve their fitness and Pilates goals.

Goals

  1. For the numerous exercises addressed in the workshop you’ll learn proper form and execution, the anatomy and biomechanics, regressions and progressions, and programming tips.
  2. Participants will better understand how Pilates and fitness complement each other.
  3. Discuss programming and designing workouts for clients and classes using the exercises provided and cover sample programs provided.
