Course/Workshop Descriptions
CORE Instructor Foundation Course
The CORE Instructor Foundation course will provide an introduction to group fitness and personal training theory and their application to program development. This program effectively brings together the worlds of core conditioning and athletic training with established body awareness principles. Effective program design relies on consideration of a broad range of concepts for training, and a complete understanding of the application of these theories. In order to bring a more thoughtful approach to the work, a series of stabilization principles will be examined and correlated with standard teachings. A number of props will be used throughout the course to demonstrate and explore the foundational principles as well as be incorporated in a Circuit Training program.
Upon completion of the CORE Instructor Foundations courses, you will have learned everything you need to:
- Explain the theory behind the CORE principles.
- Effectively apply CORE principles to a workout for any level participant.
- Teach a pre-programmed CORE Circuit class in a group format.
- Practice correct execution of exercises found in traditional fitness training.
CORE Workshops:
All CORE Workshops are created by the Merrithew™ programming team.
RECOMMENDED: Complete the CORE Workshops to receive further programming content and choreography that is not covered in the courses. Currently there are 6 CORE workshops, and many more to follow. See additional information on workshops offered. All workshops will provide CECs from STOTT PILATES and possibly other organizations.
CORE Balance & Strength on the Big Blue Stability Cushion™
This engaging and challenging new workout, features a large Stability Cushion™ balance disk and a pair of secured hand weights. The combination of these props results in movements that are ideal for athletic training or functional fitness. The cushion provides an unstable base that helps activate the deep support muscles of the torso while the small hand weights incorporate peripheral resistance to movements of the arms and upper body. The Core Foundational Principles are applied in this fitness-based workout that will provide fun and variety – and a little extra challenge. Participants are encouraged to wear training shoes for this workshop.
CORE Power & Stamina: Medicine Ball Interval Training, Volume 1
In this intense athletic program, you will experience a unique full-body workout using the medicine ball. Because of the shape and weight of the ball, this program will challenge your strength and agility as well as your endurance and stamina. Based on a series of exercise intervals, incorporating the CORE Foundational Principles, you can increase or decrease the intensity of the workout based on the weight of the med ball you choose. Participants are encouraged to wear training shoes for this workshop.
CORE Power & Stamina: Medicine Ball Interval Training, Volume 2
In this level 2 intense athletic program, you will experience a unique full-body workout using the medicine ball. High intensity interval training utilizing strength, power, and plyometric based exercises are introduced, incorporating the CORE Foundational Principles. Modifications, correct form and alignment as well as programming concepts are included in this fast paced workshop. Participants are encouraged to wear training shoes for this workshop.
CORE Athletic Conditioning with Fitness Circle®
The Fitness Circle resistance ring lives up to its name by providing peripheral resistance to a fitness-based workout. Focusing on stabilization of the shoulders, hips and core, these moves can be added into any personal training or group fitness setting to bring increased intensity and muscle-specific training. Learn how this simple tool can help you achieve dramatic results when used in a variety of applications.
CORE Dynamic Resistance Training with Tubing
This creative and versatile new workout, features two types of elastic resistance: Tubing with handles and tubing ankle cuffs. This workshop balances upper, lower and core resistance training with athletic-based movements that will challenge any athlete or fitness buff.
